Join archaeological expedition to the Valley of Kings

1 June 2018 to 31 August 2018

Документы

This year the Russian Geographical Society has again called for volunteers to take part in the contest for participation in the international archaeological and geographical expedition to study Tunnug Mound. Young people aged 18 to 35 (inclusive) may apply for joining an expedition team.

Tunnug Mound is located in the Uyuk flood plain in the Uyuk Basin in the Republic of Tuva. Early indications suggest that this burial refers to the same time as the Arzhaan-1 mound, the largest and earliest Scythian mound (dated around 9th century BC).

Researchers will get a unique chance to come search for ancient history in the territory of excavations, the so-called “Valley of Kings”. There are many Scythian princely tombs located here and the territory is considered rich in significant historical finds.

Because Tunnug mound is located in permafrost, it is possible to find preserved organic remains and various artifacts under the stone barrow. In other words, members of the expedition should have an opportunity to witness important archaeological discoveries.

In addition to excavations, the team will be able to enjoy an intense program of cultural activities: lectures by archaeologists of the Institute of the Material Culture History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, sports events, thematic days, and visits to museums in Tuva.

The expedition timeline includes 3 shifts:

1 shift: June 1 – June 30, 2018

2 shift: July 1 – July 31, 2018

3 shift: August 1 – August 31, 2018

To join the expedition, it is required to fill in an application. We pay special attention to the fact that applicants should be physically fit and strong – 1-2 health groups, sports categories will be an advantage.

IMPORTANT: encephalitic vaccination is required.

The deadline for applications is April 15, 2018 (see these Rules for details).
